Episode #6 - Mindfulness: Not Just For Hippies
Monica Tomlinson is currently completing her PhD in clinical psychology at Western University. The title of her presentation is: Where Eastern Tradition Meets Western Science: Mindfulness and its Application in Psychotherapy. The “third wave” of psychotherapy has incorporated mindfulness meditation as a psychological approach for putting space between thoughts, emotions, and behaviour. In this talk, she will offer an overview of mindfulness, introduce us to mindfulness meditation, and briefly describe how she has applied mindfulness to non-clinical groups (e.g., those with chronic pain, parents) and clinical groups (e.g., individuals suffering from psychosis).

Episode #3 - Patriotism for "Countryist"?
In this episode, Dr. Charles Jones discuss how we should think about patriotism. Patriots love their country and show special concern for their compatriots. But is patriotism morally legitimate? Loyalty to country or nation seems to be a powerful value, but putting your country first seems to violate equal concern for all human beings.
Dr. Charles Jones is a professor of political science at Western University. He specializes in contemporary political theory and the history of political thought, with an emphasis on global justice, human rights, freedom, and equality.
